Good book, just like its predecessors in the series. Liked it enough that I was sorry when it was over.

The Children of Wrath The Renshai Chronicles Mickey Zucker Reichert 9780886777852 Books Reviews

Wow...that's all I can say! I loved the first two books, and Children of Wrath offers a great conclusion, while still leaving the reader to wonder what happens next. The characters really start to grow on ya, and why shouldn't they? Not only is this book written in great detail, but you really feel as though you were there, with them (at least I did, but I can't vouch for the rest of you).
I will admit up front that I haven't read any of the other books in the series; it's possible that I am therefore missing something. I doubt it, however - the author is very good at recapping and does so whenever necessary, making this feel like a book that stands on its own.

The good We get a reasonably well-done world based on Norse mythology by someone who has evidently done her homework in this field. We also get elves who, despite being mystical beings with a skewed perspective on things, are not super-pure or intrinsically better than everybody else around them. The writing is also, if not brilliant, at least reasonably engaging.

The bad The characters are flat and I mean very flat. The three characters who get the most screen time and development are a noble knight, a wrathful Valkyrie-esque warrior and a reformed thief. Each of them will act EXACTLY as you would assume such a stock character would act, in every situation. They are joined on their quest by an adolescent thief (who does angry thief-like things), a Viking (who barely does anything), a bard (who does musical bard-like things) and two elves (who serve as magical support for any situation that requires it). It's hard to get really worried about these people or their quest, both of which go predictably well.

The ugly (could be bad, could be good) This is fairly generic fantasy fiction, right down to the use of apostrophes to make names seem suitably fantasy-esque. (A few glances in the direction of the elves' names should be enough to prove this point.) There's also parallel plotline involving the gods (Odin vs. Colbey, essentially) which provides texture to the world but seems mostly like either fan-service or a mild Mary Sue. (This last bit might be less irritating if I had read the rest of the series and thus had a reason to care about Colbey.)

If you're looking for a bit of diversion in a fantasy setting, this book can provide that. If you're looking for more, I'm not sure you'll find it here.
book was in excellent condition, to me, and now i can finish reading the series and have my own library!
Thank you awesome
