I don't like sentences that are half written, nor images "she gave him her eyes". What, they just fell out of her head and she handed them over? The fantasy of super rich mixing effortlessly with the dregs of the underworld is also unbelievable. I've read many of Cornell's books and find the earlier ones much, much better than these later efforts. I will no longer read her, nor will I recommend her efforts.

The Front Patricia Cornwell 9780399154188 Books Reviews
I used to really enjoy Patricia Cornwell's work, but I got very little enjoyment out of The Front. It's a small book, more of a novella than a novel. The publisher reduced the overall size of the book and set the type with line-and-a-half spacing just to make it appear as if you're getting you're money's worth. The plot just doesn't ever develop. Without very much explanation as to how, the 40-something year old mystery is solved. Detective Win reads an old box of files from the original case and without revealing very much to the reader about what he finds in the files, he announces just what had happened. I won't be buying any more books in this series.
The Front wasn't really the best book Cornwell has written. It was short - very short - and a little too much straight to the point. Several times I had to check the book to see if it was abridged - it wasn't. But, when the story ended I was disappointed. It seemed that she ran out of time and had to end the book because dinner was ready or something. This book is okay reading on a rainy day but it's not Cornwell's usual.
This has been my least favorite book! I loved the Scarpetta books...could hardly put them down. This one dragged.....forgot the story more than once when I put it down.
In the past I enjoyed Patricia Cornwell's books, so figured this would be a good read too. I was disappointed. Just as I thought the story would be getting good, it was the end. The build up was decent, characters not developed well enough for you to care, and the climax was too quick & the end way too close to the high point. A big let down.
But then again, had I paid attention to the fact it was only 192 or so pages long I would have known it's not enough to builkd a good 'Who Done it'.
Don't waste your time, even though it's only $6.57 on ...spend it somewhere else.
I liked this better than the first Win Garano book, but I still found it somewhat confusing. I probably need to read it again. I think Cornwell is a good writer and quite imaginative. She also includes interesting bits of forensic/medical information and psychological information. I enjoy what I learn and the challenge of the puzzle.
I found this book confusing at times and hard to follow. Although I read Book 1 and was familiar with the character, it just didn’t pique my interest as much as I had hoped. Cornwall is better at writing her Kay Scarpetta forensic mystery series.
Visions of grandeur...
Meet Monique, a self-centered ambitious DA with visions of grandeur. Meet Win, her lead investigator who tolerates her orders with caution. Meet Stump, an intelligent investigator who originated the Front group that brings a link between area law enforcement agencies. Monique takes an old murder of a blind British young woman and aims to pin it on the Boston Strangler. Luring in Win, Stump, and the Scotland Yard, Monique once again strives for more power & fame by any means necessary. The characters are good, but again leave the reader with mixed messages. Again the conclusion to the investigation seems to be anticlimactic. There is much improvement over the previous `At Risk', but this book still lacks the polish that is usual for Cornwell. Hopefully any follow up books in this series will be better than these first two.
Keep in mind that this is a murder/mayhem read. 3.5* of 5*
